Just like no person is perfect, no culture is perfect. We and culture exist on a continuum, with our role being to understand where we are and how we need to evolve.
As leaders of culture, we need to have a view of how culture makes both the organisation and the ecosystem better. We also need to set the guardrails on what culture isn’t and the behaviours that aren’t us.
As societal culture ebbs and flows, so do our expectations of organisational cultures. Today, society is asking our organisations to be more socially and environmentally purposeful, respectful and inclusive of diversity and that we demonstrate empathy and have more holistic thinking about impact and approach. This means leaders will need to shape organisational culture accordingly.
Given that culture needs to be embodied within our organisation and our leaders, the call becomes for us as leaders to ‘be the change’.
By doing so, we can elevate our organisations and contribute to shaping the collective business landscape. It is a journey of leading with intent and evolving personal insight to meet and uplift modern social expectations.
The path ahead is about transcending transactional leadership and embracing a transformational approach, where we are not just managers of resources but shapers of cultures. As we tread this path, let’s aspire to craft cultures that are reflective of the societal conscience and that contribute to a more compassionate and purpose-driven business landscape.
